Enhancing Connectivity in Dubai: The Opening of the New Three-Lane Bridge

Spanning an impressive 1,210 meters, the newly opened bridge is engineered to accommodate an estimated 4,800 vehicles per hour. RTA’s Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, Mattar Al Tayer, expressed optimism regarding the bridge’s potential to bolster accessibility to key residential and commercial districts, including Al Hudaiba, Al Raffa, Al Jafiliya, Al Mankhool, Al Kifaf, and Al Karama.
The bridge serves as a vital component of the expansive Phase 4 of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, which extends over 4.8 kilometers along Sheikh Rashid Road, beginning at its intersection with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and culminating at Falcon Intersection on Al Mina Street. The ambitious undertaking features the construction of five additional bridges, which total 3.1 kilometers in length, collectively designed to accommodate 19,400 vehicles across all lanes, significantly alleviating congestion in the area.
In addition to the bridges, the scope of the project includes the development of 4.8 kilometers of road infrastructure, alongside enhancements to existing thoroughfares such as Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Street. Furthermore, the initiative emphasizes pedestrian safety and mobility, as evidenced by the construction of two pedestrian bridges—one on Sheikh Rashid Road and another on Al Mina Street.
Highlighting the project’s impressive progress, Al Tayer noted that RTA has successfully completed 90 percent of Phase 4, with the remaining two bridges anticipated to open to traffic in the second quarter of the year. Upon completion, this monumental infrastructure upgrade is expected to benefit approximately one million residents by significantly easing traffic congestion and facilitating smoother vehicular flow. Notably, the initiative aims to change the commuting landscape dramatically, reducing average travel time from a protracted 104 minutes to a mere 16 minutes by the year 2030.
