e& Satellite Services Achieves a Landmark in Connectivity with 1.25 Gbps Satellite Launch
In a significant advancement for telecommunications in the Middle East, e& Carrier & Wholesale Services (C&WS) has announced the successful deployment of the region’s first 1.25 Gbps satellite connectivity during a live proof-of-concept demonstration at its esteemed Jebel Ali Teleport. This momentous achievement highlights e&’s commitment to pioneering next-generation satellite connectivity and marks a critical evolution in communication capabilities across numerous industries.
The successful demonstration yielded an astonishing average latency of just 140 milliseconds, positioning e& as a frontrunner in delivering high-performance and resilient communication technologies. This leap forward is particularly crucial for a range of international clients—including cruise operators, aviation firms, and major multinational corporations—that depend on robust, high-speed connectivity for their mission-critical operations in remote and dynamic environments.
The innovative demonstration was conducted in partnership with SES, a leading technology firm in satellite communications, leveraging SES’s O3b mPOWER Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) constellation. This advanced satellite network utilizes narrow beams of approximately 250 kilometers in diameter to provide round-trip latency under 150 milliseconds. Such high-speed, low-latency solutions are pivotal for various strategic applications, including enterprise connectivity, governmental services, and even cloud-based solutions as well as backhaul for 5G networks.
The integration of this capability with e&’s existing cloud and data center infrastructure exemplifies the seamless connectivity that international customers can now enjoy. This comprehensive solution not only promises optimized performance for real-time data exchange but also strengthens onboard entertainment systems, remote monitoring, and secure communications. Notably, these advancements enable e& to extend reliable, high-speed connectivity to underserved areas, offshore locations, and other remote environments—areas that have been challenging for traditional communication technologies to reach.

This momentous announcement follows SES’s successful deployment of its ninth and tenth O3b mPOWER satellites last year, which operate at an altitude of approximately 8,000 kilometers in Medium Earth Orbit. The O3b mPOWER system is designed to deliver fiber-like performance characterized by predictable low latency and scalable bandwidth, making it especially suitable for mission-critical applications and future 5G backhaul deployments.
