China-Algeria Youth Cultural Initiative Promotes Bilateral Understanding

In a significant move to enhance cultural ties between China and Algeria, the China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) hosted the closing selection and awards ceremony for the initiative, “A la recherche d’ambassadeur culturel de la jeunesse entre la Chine et l’Algérie” (In Search of China-Algeria Youth Cultural Ambassadors). The event, held in the heart of Algiers, celebrated the creative contributions of young participants in fostering mutual understanding between the two nations. Five exceptional individuals were selected as official Youth Cultural Ambassadors, recognized for their effective storytelling that embodies the spirit of cooperation and friendship.
This initiative represents an important step in the context of the “Youth Development” agenda outlined by the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum. It underscores a commitment to nurturing connections between the younger generations of both countries, ultimately laying a robust foundation for the long-term relationship between China and Algeria. Bendouda urged young people from both nations to embrace their roles as cultural ambassadors, leveraging their experiences to strengthen bilateral ties and foster enduring intergenerational friendships.
Guo Jianjun, Economic and Commercial Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Algeria, underlined the historical context of the friendship that has flourished since the times of the ancient Silk Road, now revitalized under contemporary initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative. “Youth represent the future of China-Algeria relations. We hope they will embrace openness and innovation to craft new narratives of cooperation,” he remarked, reflecting on the potential of the younger generation to shape future interactions.
The initiative has garnered significant interest from Algeria’s youth since its inception, drawing 165 entries that included creative short videos and vlogs. These submissions aimed at capturing stories of the Belt and Road initiative, highlighting an era of goodwill and collaborative spirit. Following rigorous screening, 30 entries progressed to the semi-finals, culminating in an inspiring onstage competition where 15 finalists showcased their projects before the final selection of the five ambassadors.
The awards ceremony not only celebrated individual achievements but also served as a vital platform for fostering intercultural dialogue. It reaffirmed the commitment of Sinopec and the Algeria-China Friendship Association to continue their efforts in promoting youth engagement in cultural diplomacy, thereby reinforcing the longstanding ties between the two nations.
