Five Emirati Youth Hoist UAE Flag to a Height of 350 Meters

Young Emiratis Hoist UAE Flag in Honor of Eid Al Etihad on Jebel Wa’ab Al Haif

In a remarkable display of patriotism, a group of five young Emirati men undertook a monumental endeavor to root their national pride deep into the heart of Ras Al Khaimah, by raising the UAE flag at a stunning altitude of 350 meters. This event took place on Jebel Wa’ab Al Haif, a mountain that holds significant historical resonance for the region, marking the celebration of the 53rd Eid Al Etihad—the UAE’s National Day.

The initiative was led by Mohammed Saeed Zaidoh Al Shehhi, 42, whose family lineage is steeped in the traditions of the UAE. He explained the significance of their chosen location: “We selected the summit of Mount Wa’ab Al Haif, located near the Al Wa’ab area, a place where our ancestors once cultivated wheat. The vantage point offers a panoramic view of the Shaam and Al Jeer areas, a reminder of our roots and the beauty of our homeland.” The deliberate choice of this site underscores a deep connection to the land and a respect for the history that has shaped their cultural identity.

This project was not without its challenges. Over the course of an intensive week, Al Shehhi and his team—Salem Abdullah Al Shehhi, Saeed Nouba Al Shehhi, Khalid Mohammed Al Shehhi, and Zawad Al Shehhi—worked tirelessly to erect a 60-meter mast capable of supporting a flag measuring 10 by 4 meters. This undertaking required not only the physical labor of transporting cement and equipment to the mountain’s peak, but also a logistical effort that reflects both dedication and teamwork among the young Emiratis.

“We have made it a tradition to either raise the flag or paint it on the summit of various mountains each year,” said Al Shehhi. “However, this year we decided to leave a more permanent symbol of our pride through the construction of a mast that is visible for all in the vicinity to see.” The significance of their actions transcends mere symbolism; it serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of unity and collective pride among the Emirati youth.

Eid Al Etihad celebrates the unification of the seven emirates that form the United Arab Emirates, a holiday embodied by themes of solidarity, national pride, and cultural heritage. This year’s celebration, marked by raising the flag at such a prominent height, resonates with the principles that underpin the identity of a nation that has rapidly transformed over the decades while remaining anchored in its traditional values.

The act of hoisting the flag in a location where it can be admired by many is reflective of a broader trend wherein citizens engage in nationalistic celebrations that reinforce their ties to their country’s history and future aspirations. It is a powerful reminder of how collective local efforts contribute to the national narrative of resilience and unity.

As Emiratis continue to grapple with the influences of modernization, the youth play an integral role in maintaining traditions that evoke a sense of belonging and cultural continuity. Events like those initiated by Al Shehhi and his compatriots resonate well beyond the immediate community; they encapsulate a narrative that promotes not just national pride but also a shared vision for the future—one that encompasses innovation while cherishing heritage.

Such initiatives attract attention not only from within the UAE but also across the Gulf region, which has seen similar expressions of unity and pride in recent years. As the UAE embarks on its journey towards further globalization and innovation, it is critical to instill pride in its cultural heritage among the youth—something this group exemplifies through their actions.

Through their efforts, these young Emiratis are not just raising a flag but are also erecting a lasting symbol of hope and unity for future generations. Their dedication serves as a reminder of the importance of honoring one’s roots while striving towards a brighter future, echoing the ethos of the UAE itself.
