Masdar, a leading clean energy company based in Abu Dhabi, has teamed up with Bapco Energies, a state-owned entity in Bahrain, to advance wind energy projects in the region. This partnership is a strategic move by Masdar to support Bahrain’s goals of decarbonization and achieving net-zero emissions.

Masdar, known for its expertise in implementing wind projects globally, including the largest wind farm in the Middle East and the London Array offshore wind project, will work with Bapco to explore and invest in wind projects in Bahrain. These projects have the potential to have a capacity of up to 2 gigawatts and will include both near-shore and offshore wind farms, making it a groundbreaking initiative in the Middle East.

Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, expressed the company’s commitment to helping Bahrain achieve its net-zero targets through collaborations like the one with Bapco Energies. He highlighted Masdar’s goal to significantly increase renewable capacity globally by the end of the decade and become a key producer of green hydrogen by 2030.

Mark Thomas, CEO of Bapco Energies, emphasized the strategic value of the partnership in realizing Bahrain’s National Energy Strategy and progressing towards its net-zero objectives. The collaboration signifies their dedication to diversifying Bahrain’s energy mix with cleaner sources of energy.

This joint venture between Masdar and Bapco Energies is set to drive the development of wind energy in Bahrain, contributing to the country’s sustainable energy goals.
