Sharjah: Friends of Cancer Patients Launches Comprehensive Pink October Campaign to Raise Awareness for Breast Cancer

In a significant stride towards improving public health awareness, the Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) has inaugurated its annual Pink October campaign, a key initiative designed to highlight Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2025. This comprehensive program encompasses free screenings, health initiatives, and educational activities, positioned to reach a broad audience across the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

At the forefront of this initiative is the Pink Caravan, which will offer complimentary clinical, mammogram, and ultrasound screenings at over 86 locations nationwide. These screenings will take place at fixed medical facilities in various emirates, including Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah. In addition, mobile clinics will be deployed to critical urban centers, ensuring accessibility to diagnostic services for all residents. The screenings will be available daily throughout October, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with extended hours offered in Khorfakkan to accommodate a larger demographic.

Aisha Al Mulla, the Director of FOCP, emphasized the campaign’s integral role in fostering a culture of health consciousness. “This campaign reflects our vision of transforming awareness into a responsible health culture rooted in prevention,” she articulated. “The UAE’s experience in cancer prevention and early intervention has become a model that inspires the region and the world.” Al Mulla’s statements underscore the initiative’s broader objective of enhancing preventative healthcare practices while providing critical support to those affected by cancer.

In an effort to engage corporate entities and foster a sense of community involvement, the Pink October campaign is introducing a suite of corporate wellness services. These include mobile clinic visits to workplaces, dedicated Pink October Corporate Wellness Days, and educational workshops aimed at fostering knowledge about early detection and breast self-examination. Companies wishing to participate can book on-site demonstrations or opt for virtual awareness sessions, allowing for flexibility while maintaining a commitment to employee health.

Community engagement forms the cornerstone of the campaign, with a calendar of events designed to draw public participation. Noteworthy activities include the Pink Caravan Community Festival at Aljada, Sharjah, scheduled from October 10 to 12, along with the Pink Tour at Dubai Expo City on October 12. Additionally, the events culminate in a pivotal Ride with Rixos in Abu Dhabi on October 18, followed by participation in the Battle Cancer Challenge in Dubai on October 25. Such events are not merely opportunities for public engagement but serve as platforms to disseminate critical information regarding breast cancer, its risks, and the importance of early detection.

Volunteer roles are available for a diverse range of participants, including survivors, healthcare professionals, influencers, and members of the media. This inclusivity not only enriches the campaign but also empowers individuals to contribute meaningfully towards a collective cause. Moreover, the initiative has garnered immense institutional support, with sponsorship contributions from notable entities such as Crescent Petroleum, SNOC, SEWA, and Sharjah Media City, illustrating a united front in the fight against cancer.

In a creative approach to fundraising, proceeds from the Pink Shop’s merchandise collection—comprising themed pins, bracelets, candles, and bags—will be directed toward supporting cancer patients and their families. This aspect of the campaign not only provides financial assistance but also fosters a sense of solidarity among community members, encouraging them to play an active role in the movement against cancer.

The Pink October campaign spearheaded by FOCP represents a crucial effort to galvanize public consciousness regarding breast cancer and underline the importance of proactive health measures. By aligning with both governmental and corporate sectors, FOCP aims to craft an enduring legacy of awareness, support, and community resilience in the face of this pervasive disease.

As the UAE embraces this initiative, it stands as a model for regional efforts in cancer awareness and patient care, demonstrating how collective action can lead to profoundly positive outcomes in public health.
