‘Sanusi Reinstated as Emir of Kano by Galaxy Television’

by Dubaiforum

The State House of Assembly has recently passed an amended law directing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to restore the Kano Emirate System to its original status prior to the enactment of a law in December 2019. This move comes after the dissolution of the five Emirates created by former Governor Ganduje, which included Bichi, Rano, Gaya, Karaye, and the Kano Emirate.

The amendment was prompted by tensions between former Governor Ganduje and Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, resulting in the fragmentation of the Kano Emirate. Subsequently, Sanusi was dethroned and the Emirate was split into five, with new first-class Emirs appointed.

Following the passing of the bill, Governor Abba Yusuf announced Sanusi as the Emir, complying with the new law. The legislation also mandates the Governor to oversee the transition process, dealing with assets and liabilities of the abolished emirates.

Under the repealed law, Aminu Ado Bayero, the dethroned Emir, who previously controlled only 8 out of the 44 local government councils, will now revert to his former position as the Wambai of Kano. The reinstatement of Sanusi has brought joy to many residents of Kano, especially supporters of the former Emir, who are eagerly anticipating his return to lead Friday prayers as the new Emir of the State.
