Six million smart devices enhance homes in KSA and UAE

by Dubaiforum

Smart home devices are gaining popularity in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, with a total of six million smart devices seamlessly integrated into the daily lives of Alexa customers. These customers are reaping the benefits of a connected smart home, where they can control lighting, air conditioners, TVs, and cameras through voice commands to Alexa.

In 2023, Alexa users in these countries initiated nearly 130 million smart home actions and over 100 million requests for music, Quran, and podcasts, totaling more than 70 million listening hours. The convenience and efficiency offered by smart devices are enhancing the lifestyles of customers in the Middle East.

Alexa has been turning lights on and off over 24 million times in homes across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with air conditioner control being the second most frequently used device category. The growing adoption of voice-enabled home automation is evident, with a significant year-over-year increase in Smart Home customers and the number of devices connected to Alexa.

Dr. Raf Fatani, Regional General Manager of Alexa at Amazon MENA, expressed excitement about the pace of adoption of Alexa and smart home devices in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. He highlighted how ambient intelligence, combining AI, devices, and services, is transforming daily experiences in the region. With tailored products and a focus on customer needs, Alexa is at the forefront of AI advancement in the region.

Customers in the UAE and KSA can now enjoy a new multi-view feature on Alexa, allowing them to see live feeds from up to four cameras, including Ring, on their multimodal devices. This integration aims to simplify and automate customers’ lives, providing peace of mind and greater control over their smart home devices.

The most commonly used smart home devices in the UAE and KSA include lighting brands like Smart Life, Xiaomi, and Surplife, top television brands like Samsung, LG, and Broadlink IR Remote, popular camera brands such as Ring, Eufy, and TP Link, and climate control devices from Smart Life, LG, and Honeywell.

As smart home technology continues to evolve and improve, customers in the Middle East are embracing these innovations to create more convenient and efficient living spaces.
