The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) has embarked on a significant expansion of its water infrastructure, aimed at enhancing the quality and reliability of water supply across the Emirate of Sharjah. Eng. Faisal Al Serkal, the Director of the Water Department at SEWA, recently outlined the details of this ambitious project, which includes extensive upgrades to water networks within several key residential areas. The total financial commitment for this transformative endeavor amounts to approximately AED 85.4 million, signaling a robust investment in essential public utilities that serve the community.
The expansion encompasses the completion of vital water networks in residential districts such as Al Qutaina, specifically in areas 1, 2, and 4, which alone incurred a cost of AED 21 million. Moreover, significant upgrades were completed in Basateen Al Zubair, with an investment of AED 9.6 million. Additionally, the fourth phase of development in the Hoshi area was successfully finalized at a cost of AED 9 million. In connection with these enhancements, SEWA also completed water network improvements in four other regions—Al Yash, Al Ramaqiya, Al Qouz, and Al Majaz 2—expenditures for which approximated AED 6 million. Furthermore, SEWA successfully installed an 800 mm diameter transmission line connecting Al Rafa’a and Al Fisht, reaching a length of 2.9 kilometers, with a total investment of AED 8.8 million. A significant milestone was also achieved with the completion of a major water transmission line extending 15 kilometers from the Khudaira area to the Hamda station; this substantial project was realized at a cost of AED 31 million. Such large-scale projects are pivotal in ensuring that the water transmission network can effectively meet future demands, thus laying the groundwork for long-term sustainable development in Sharjah.
