DHL Global Forwarding and TotalEnergies have successfully transformed seven DHL sites in Dubai into solar-powered facilities. This initiative represents a significant step towards DHL’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions from its logistics operations by 2050.
The collaboration between DHL Global Forwarding and TotalEnergies, established through a Power Equipment Lease Agreement in 2021, is projected to reduce around 5,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions annually. This reduction is equivalent to planting 119,000 trees each year.
The 7 MWp solar project will generate over 11,000 MWh per year, meeting 80% of the energy needs of the seven buildings located in key areas such as JAFZA and DAFZA. The solar rooftops encompass over 12,000 solar photovoltaic modules, covering a surface equivalent to 27,000 sqm.
Moreover, TotalEnergies has installed solar-powered electric vehicle charging stations at DHL’s sites, supporting the Group’s objective to electrify 60% of its fleet by 2030.
Amadou Diallo, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding Middle East and Africa, expressed pride in achieving the complete solarization of these sites in partnership with TotalEnergies. Hamady Sy, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Renewables Distributed Generation Middle East and Africa, highlighted the impact of this initiative in advancing low-carbon logistics in the region.
DHL Global Forwarding has been at the forefront of implementing sustainable practices in the UAE. In 2022, the company launched an EV Hub in Dubai South dedicated to the storage, recycling, repair, and processing of electric vehicle batteries, ensuring long-term sustainability.
This milestone underscores DHL’s commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation in the logistics industry.
