Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi, envisions a cohesive narrative woven throughout the various museums, stating, “When it’s all complete, you’ll have a collection of museums that tell a story that are all intertwined with each other.” This vision reflects an ambition to create not just isolated edifices, but a vibrant cultural ecosystem that engages both residents and visitors alike.
One of the key installations within this district is teamLab Phenomena, an innovative multimedia art experience created by a collective of Japanese digital artists. Falcons are an important part of UAE culture.” Al Qemzi adds that these architectural features also serve practical purposes; the openings within the wings allow for natural ventilation, contributing to the building’s overall sustainability.
Beyond the cultural institutions, the district is being planned with a vision for residential living, expecting to accommodate approximately 160,000 residents. Talal Al Dhiyebi, Group CEO of Aldar Properties, shared his perspective on this ambitious urban undertaking: “What’s happening in Saadiyat Cultural District, I doubt will ever happen anywhere or any other place in the world again.” He expounds, “It’s not just a tourism destination, but a place where people will live, visit, work, remember, and experience something that is truly incredible.”
