In a progressive stride toward environmental stewardship and social responsibility, the IFFCO Group, a preeminent FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) multinational firm based in the United Arab Emirates, has unveiled its third annual Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report. This document not only encapsulates a year of substantial advancements across operational, sourcing, and packaging dimensions but also highlights the company’s commitment to forging a sustainable future.

The revelations outlined in the 2024 ESG Report signify a pivotal transition for IFFCO Group, moving from mere ideation to tangible outcomes. Central to this transformation is the firm’s launch of its ambitious “Sustainability Strategy 2030,” which envisages a comprehensive approach to sustainability encapsulating nine distinct ESG programs. These initiatives not only adhere to established global benchmarks but also include climate targets aligned with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) standards. Each program is meticulously structured around three- and six-year roadmaps, complete with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and financial commitments that facilitate effective execution and foster accountability across various business functions.

One of the hallmark achievements noted in the report is a significant enhancement in renewable energy utilization. In a remarkable display of commitment to renewable sources, IFFCO has more than doubled its on-site renewable energy generation, reaching an impressive total of 5,140 MWh by 2024. This amount is sufficient to provide complete energy for approximately 480 homes in the UAE for an entire year, illustrating the company’s proactive approach to energy sustainability. Notably, the Group has also succeeded in reducing its water intensity by 8%, further exemplifying its resolve toward environmentally responsible operations.

The integration of sustainability into IFFCO’s corporate framework transcends energy efficiency and extends into human resources. In a move that reinforces a culture of sustainability within the organization, the company has embedded sustainability-linked KPIs into the performance assessment metrics of over 900 employees, marking a 13% increase in participation from the previous year. This initiative is indicative of an evolving corporate culture where ownership and accountability for sustainable practices are shared collectively by the workforce.

Adding further depth to their sustainability endeavors, IFFCO Group has also introduced its Consumer Packaging Roadmap 2030. This forward-thinking program aims to substantially decrease the use of virgin plastic by promoting the adoption of recycled PET, alongside a commitment to renewable and recyclable packaging solutions throughout its diverse product offerings. The intention is not merely to comply with regulations, but to lead the market in sustainable packaging innovation which resonates with the growing consumer demand for environmentally friendly products.

On the transportation front, the Group has made noteworthy strides towards lowering its carbon footprint. Following systematic logistics optimization, the transportation-related carbon footprint has shrunk from 11% in 2021 to a mere 7% of the total carbon footprint, facilitated in part by a strategic transition of 30% of its UAE fleet to biofuels (B7). These initiatives align seamlessly with the UAE’s overarching Net Zero 2050 targets, positioning IFFCO as a proactive participant in the nation’s ambitious environmental agenda.

Rizwan Ahmed, Executive Director of IFFCO Group, articulated the company’s ethos by stating, “Our progress is a testament to our conviction that long-term value is created by acting with purpose, delivering operational excellence while doing what’s right for people, the planet, and future generations.” These insights are echoed by Dina Epifanova, Group Head of Sustainability, who noted that the past year was marked by “purposeful effort” aimed at smart sourcing, strengthening traceability, and embedding sustainability throughout the organizational landscape.

In conclusion, the IFFCO Group is at the forefront of a vital movement towards sustainable business operations, exemplifying how multinational corporations can effectively balance profit with responsibility. As they advance towards their 2030 goals, IFFCO’s initiatives serve not only as a blueprint for corporate sustainability but also as a beacon of hope for communities and the planet. By prioritizing sustainability in every facet of their operations, they are not only securing their business future but also enhancing the quality of life for future generations.
