El Wastani Petroleum Company Unveils Significant Natural Gas Reserves in the Nile Delta
In a noteworthy development for Egypt’s energy sector, the El Wastani Petroleum Company (WASCO) has successfully drilled the North El-Basant–1 exploratory well in the fertile corridors of the Nile Delta, significantly enhancing the region’s natural gas reserves. Preliminary test results indicate the presence of an estimated 15 to 25 billion cubic feet (bcf) of additional natural gas, setting the stage for a potential shift in the country’s energy production landscape.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced that WASCO is currently finalizing all necessary procedures to bring the well into production. Upon commencement, it is anticipated that the well will yield approximately 10 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d). Amidst fluctuating energy demands, Dana Gas has taken proactive steps through a multi-year investment program designed to bolster reserves and sustain production over the long term in Egypt. This comprehensive plan encompasses an investment of US0 million to drill six exploratory wells and five development wells, aimed at maximizing hydrocarbon recovery. The program is projected to contribute an additional 80 billion cubic feet of recoverable gas, significantly enhancing both asset value and the longevity of Dana Gas’s operations in Egypt.
The exploration well North El-Basant–1 is part of a broader initiative to harness the energy potential of Egypt’s gas-rich territories. In July, Dana Gas also commenced drilling the Begonia-2 appraisal well within the New Manzala concession area. This represents the inaugural well in the Begonia development area, targeting gas reserves located in the Abu Madi formation. Initial assessments suggest that this well could hold a reservoir volume of up to nine billion cubic feet of natural gas, further underscoring the incentivizing potential of the region.
