Dubai Maritime City's New Headquarters: A Beacon of Innovation and Sustainability for Global Business
In a significant advancement for Dubai’s maritime and trade sectors, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the Chairman of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), has officially inaugurated the new headquarters of the Corporation, situated in the heart of Dubai Maritime City. This ambitious facility not only marks a transformative step for PCFC but also symbolizes Dubai’s dedication to reinforcing its status as a premier global business hub.
Spanning across several floors and accommodating more than 1,500 employees, the new headquarters is designed to serve over 300 clients and visitors each day, signifying its importance as a central hub for the Corporation’s operations. The state-of-the-art facility includes a dedicated parking structure with the capacity to hold more than 700 vehicles, thus enhancing accessibility and convenience for all who utilize its services.
During his speech at the inauguration event, Sultan bin Sulayem reflected on the Corporation’s historical journey that began in 1886 when the Furda Department was established to regulate Dubai’s trade and customs. He remarked, “Today, we celebrate the opening of this headquarters – a model of innovation and sustainability.” He emphasized that the building not only prioritizes employee welfare by providing a comfortable work environment but also ensures high service efficiency for clients, a crucial aspect in sustaining Dubai’s competitive edge in the global marketplace.
Architecturally, the new headquarters is an emblem of modern design that respects the historic context of Mina Rashid, one of Dubai’s oldest ports. The building is distinguished by its adherence to the rigorous gold-level LEED standards, set forth by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). This certification marks it as one of the world’s leaders in sustainable construction, focusing on enhancing indoor environmental quality while reducing water consumption and improving energy efficiency.
“We were committed from the inception of this project to create a headquarters that signifies progress—a testament to our forward-thinking vision,” bin Sulayem asserted, highlighting the Corporation’s mission to embody sustainable practices that align with its core values.
Underlining the significance of the occasion, Nasser Al Neyadi, the CEO of PCFC, articulated that the opening of this new headquarters is merely the beginning of an array of accomplishments aimed at enhancing the Corporation’s standing both regionally and globally. He pointed out that the facility is not only a physical space for operations but also a stepping stone toward achieving digital transformation and corporate excellence, emphasizing the meticulous efforts made to ensure the project was completed on schedule.
The inauguration ceremony also showcased a guided tour by the Chairman, where attendees could explore the various departments and features of the headquarters. Highlights included a Museum, a Library, the Happiness Council, and Innovation Quay, all dedicated to nurturing a progressive work culture. Adding a unique touch to the event, the Corporation unveiled a custom tune and exclusive fragrances named after its major ports—Rashid, Hamriyah, and Jebel Ali—developed specially for this milestone occasion.
The event attracted a diverse group of stakeholders, including Nasser Al Neyadi, Dr. Abdullah Busenad, the Director-General of Dubai Customs, Abdullah bin Damithan, Executive Director and General Manager of DP World for the GCC region, and Ahmed bin Sulayem, CEO of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, alongside board members and strategic partners. This gathering reflected the holistic support from various sectors in realizing the vision encapsulated by this new facility.
As Dubai continues to expand its horizons and bolster its infrastructure in a rapidly changing global environment, the new headquarters of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation stands as a testament to its unyielding commitment to innovation, sustainability, and service excellence. The facility not only reaffirms Dubai’s role as a leading player in international trade and maritime logistics but also serves as a benchmark for future developments aimed at fostering economic growth and operational efficiency.
