Port operator in Dubai expresses interest in Land Bridge project along Southern Economic Corridor

A prominent port and ship operator based in Dubai has expressed keen interest in Thailand’s Land Bridge project. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Suriya Jungrungreangkit recently met with the chairman of Dubai Ports World and discussed potential investment opportunities. Dubai Ports World is a global company with a fleet of 1,700 ships and manages port operations in multiple countries. Executives from the company are planning a visit to Thailand in the coming month to further explore investment prospects.

Minister Suriya highlighted the positive outcomes of initial studies, indicating substantial investment benefits for Thailand. He also mentioned that leading companies from Rome, Dubai, and China have shown strong interest in the project, confirming its feasibility. Following the conclusion of international roadshows, feedback gathered will be integrated into the draft legislation for the Southern Economic Corridor, also known as the Land Bridge Bill. This draft is on track to be presented to the Cabinet and subsequently submitted to Parliament.

The Minister assured that once the Land Bridge Bill is finalized, the project auction could kick off by the end of 2025. This development showcases the growing interest from international players in Thailand’s infrastructure projects and the economic potential the Land Bridge project holds for the country.
