Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Welcomes Young Leaders to Gulf Bridges Program in Sharjah
Sharjah, UAE – In a significant initiative aimed at fostering leadership and innovation among youth in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, warmly welcomed participants of the Gulf Bridges Program at the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre located in University City. The inaugural session, held on December 22, 2024, was conducted under the esteemed patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler’s spouse and founder of Rubu’ Qarn for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators. This noteworthy program was organized collaboratively by Sharjah Youth and Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah, both integral parts of Rubu’ Qarn.
In his address to the young attendees from various Gulf nations, His Highness highlighted the significance of Sharjah as a center of knowledge, reiterating his commitment to nurturing the aspirations of the region’s youth. “We welcome you to the United Arab Emirates, to the Emirate of Sharjah, and to this institution, which holds extensive knowledge and contains a comprehensive collection of written works about the Gulf that serves the needs of researchers and readers,” remarked Sheikh Al Qasimi, emphasizing the city’s role in fostering intellectual growth.
Reflecting on the historical context of the Gulf region, Sheikh Al Qasimi delved into its economic development driven by both tradition and transformation. He recounted the historical significance of pearl diving, a once-thriving industry that brought incredible wealth before yielding to the artificial pearl trade. This transition led to greater discoveries, prominently oil, which catalyzed unparalleled economic growth and infrastructural advancements across the region. His Highness stressed the importance of unity among Gulf nations, noting that regional cooperation is crucial to counteract any external influences that could weaken societal ties or erode cultural roots.
Addressing the youth directly, he articulated a vision for the future that champions resilience and informed decision-making. “By coming to Sharjah today, you are laying the foundation for a future that fosters resilience rather than fragility,” he stated. He urged the participants to focus on personal education, self-confidence, and mutual support as key elements in building a cohesive society. His wisdom extended beyond academic achievements, as he imparted critical life lessons, advocating for a sound understanding of oneself and the historical context of the region, essential for personal and collective advancement.
Khalid bin Ali Al Sunaidi, the Assistant Secretary-General for Economic and Development Affairs at the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council, echoed Sheikh Al Qasimi’s sentiments in his speech, commending the commitment of GCC nations towards youth empowerment. He recognized His Highness’s role in welcoming the youth from the region and expressed his appreciation for Her Highness’s dedication to creating an environment conducive to creativity and innovation. Al Sunaidi highlighted the importance of youth initiatives in sustainable development, identifying the young generation as pivotal to achieving socio-economic progress in the Gulf.
The Gulf Bridges Program, scheduled to run until December 27, aims to equip 40 young men and women from GCC countries with vital skills in technical creativity and leadership excellence. The program features a range of workshops and activities designed to enhance participants’ abilities and fortify their roles as future leaders in their communities.
The significance of this initiative extends beyond mere skill acquisition; it represents a broader vision for enhanced collaboration among the youth of the Gulf, allowing for a shared platform where they can engage in meaningful discussions and decision-making processes. By fostering interconnectivity among the youth, the Gulf Bridges Program seeks to strengthen ties across the GCC, paving the way for a united front in the face of a rapidly evolving global landscape.
As part of the inaugural ceremony, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi received commemorative shields from Khalid Al Sunaidi and other delegation leaders, recognizing his contributions to youth development in the region. The event culminated in a commemorative photograph with the program participants, symbolizing a collective commitment to nurturing a new generation of leaders who will continue to uphold the tenets of unity, innovation, and resilience.
In conclusion, the Gulf Bridges Program serves not only as an educational platform but also as a beacon of hope for continuity in the region’s legacies of cooperation and solidarity, essential attributes for the sustainable development of Gulf societies.
