The New York Writers Workshop, a group of accomplished authors and writers from New York City, is set to launch an international literary conference and workshop in Kathmandu in collaboration with White Lotus Book Shop, Lalitpur. The workshop will kick off on May 22, followed by the Himalayan Literature Festival on May 27 and 28 at Kathmandu Guest House.
The event will bring together more than thirty-five international authors and educators who will share their literary pieces from the workshop, including memoirs, poetry, and other literary forms. Festival director Shreejana Bhandari expressed excitement about the upcoming festival, which will feature panel discussions, poetry readings in different languages, book launches, and engaging interactions.
Yuyutsu RD Sharma, the curator of the Himalayan Literature Festival and a well-known poet from the region, played a key role in facilitating the collaboration with the New York Writers Workshop. Renowned authors like Lourdes Rodriguez Tomlinson, Dr. Ravi Shankar, Jami Proctor Xu, and Julie Krishnan-Williams will be part of the festival, alongside international poets and writers from diverse backgrounds.
The festival will also include contributions from Nepalese authors such as Dwarika Shrestha, Narayan Wagle, Shailendra Sakar, and many others, who will participate in panel discussions focusing on various themes in Nepali literature. The event will pay tribute to the influential Nepali poet Gopal Prasad Rimal, discussing his impact on Nepali literature and unveiling English translations of his works.
