Empowering Emirati Women: A Significant Step Towards Inclusivity and Leadership in Society

ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD) — Under the esteemed patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak—a distinguished figure known as the Mother of the Nation and a champion for women and children in the UAE—the Emirati Women Chapter (EWC) has made remarkable strides in its mission to empower Emirati women. In collaboration with the General Women’s Union (GWU) and PureHealth, the largest healthcare provider in the Middle East, the EWC has formally welcomed its second cohort for 2025, which comprises 62 enthusiastic participants.

This year marks a pivotal expansion of the EWC program, which now includes a specialized track designed for senior Emirati women. Moreover, the initiative aims to ensure the inclusion of People of Determination, thereby fostering a truly diverse environment. The surge in participants—more than double the number from the previous year—highlights a robust demand for initiatives propelling transformative societal change.

Over the course of nine months, the cohort will partake in a comprehensive program encompassing personal coaching, mentorship, and immersive learning experiences. Through these endeavors, participants will acquire the skills and insights necessary to enact meaningful change within their communities and beyond. This structured approach underlines the commitment to cultivate a new generation of female leaders.

Her Excellency Noura Al Suwaidi, Secretary General of the GWU, emphasized the program’s success as a testament to the power of collaboration and shared goals in advancing women’s roles throughout society. She expressed her pride in witnessing the increasing involvement of senior Emirati women, stating that “their wisdom and experience are invaluable in shaping the future of our society.” Al Suwaidi’s commentary reflects a broader cultural shift towards young women recognizing the foundational contributions of their elders while seeking to build on these legacies for future generations.

Echoing this sentiment, Her Excellency Al Rym Abdullah Al Falasi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood (SCMC), remarked on how the EWC program serves as a unifying platform for Emirati women keen on personal and communal growth. “It’s inspiring to see senior participants join this journey, sharing their experiences and making a meaningful impact on future generations,” she noted, highlighting the intergenerational collaboration that is blossoming within the framework of the project.

Shaista Asif, Group Chief Executive Officer of PureHealth, articulated the transformative energy that the EWC continues to generate. “The Emirati Women Chapter remains a powerful force for growth and empowerment,” she said. Asif emphasized the significance of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima’s ongoing support, which serves as an inspiration to both participants and the broader community. The emotional resonance of such endorsement cannot be overstated, especially as a means of encouraging active participation among Emirati women.

Another notable development within this year’s program is the appointment of Sheikha Moza bint Khalifa bin Mohammed Al Nahyan as the Ambassador of the Senior Emirati Women Programme. This initiative, integral to the EWC framework, aligns with the broader community ethos that the Year of Community 2025 encapsulates. In her role, Sheikha Moza is tasked with preserving and promoting the rich traditions of Emirati culture, ensuring that these practices continue to flourish and resonate with younger generations.

During the onboarding ceremony, Sheikha Moza reaffirmed her commitment to empowering senior Emirati women, acknowledging that their contributions to society remain vital in shaping a progressive and cohesive community. Her involvement not only underscores the importance of honoring elder voices but also illustrates how collective efforts can foster inclusivity among diverse demographic groups.

As the Emirati Women Chapter gears up for the future, it stands as a beacon of leadership, inclusivity, and social impact. The expanded program is resolutely focused on elevating the roles of both senior women and People of Determination, amplifying a vision of a society where every voice contributes to an enriched collective narrative.

The participants in this transformative journey are now positioned to lead initiatives that align with the aspirations articulated in the Year of Community 2025. By emphasizing collaboration, resilience, and profound social change, the EWC is poised to leave an indelible mark on the UAE’s cultural and social landscape.
