German travelers’ top choice this year is Greece, according to the latest sales figures presented by the German Travel Association (DRV) at ITB Berlin 2024. Greece secured the third spot on the list of the Top 10 holiday destinations, following Turkey and Spain. Turkey is attracting families this year, while Spain’s Majorca is leading the sales with a 29 percent increase compared to 2023.
The top holiday destinations this summer based on sales include Turkey, Spain, Greece, Egypt, Portugal, Italy, Tunisia, Bulgaria, the United Arab Emirates, and Maldives. The best performing destinations, according to the DRV report, are Turkey, Portugal, the UAE, and the US, with significant increases in sales compared to the previous year.
Eastern Mediterranean destinations are expected to capture a larger share of sales, growing from 36 percent to 44 percent compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. DRV President Norbert Fiebig noted the high demand for holiday regions in Greece and Turkey despite challenges faced last year.
Additionally, cruise travel is gaining popularity among Germans, with sales projected to rise by 41 percent compared to the previous year. Greece remains a favorite choice among German travelers and was among the top 5 destinations in 2023. In 2023, the number of inbound travelers to Greece increased by 17.6 percent, with German visitors up by 9.5 percent compared to the previous year.
